About Cabanga Bookshelf

The bookshop of Cabanga Africa Group: the retail side of its publishing, built on an idea twenty years in the making.

The story

A bookshop, reimagined

The platform's builder and founder worked for a national book retailer in Zimbabwe until 2007. He kept one idea from those years: a bookshop does not need a building. It needs shelves, books and readers who know where to find them.

Almost twenty years later, Cabanga Bookshelf disrupts the book value chain with that idea. Professionals' offices and ordinary shops become Bookshelves. Each one is mirrored online. Authors and readers meet here, readers ask for what they cannot find, and the books travel across five countries by the channels the region already uses.

What makes it work is the audience. Most people are afraid to open a bookshop online because they have no readers. Cabanga Africa Group has twelve magazines and the audience retention to keep them, so an author can write a book today and have it marketed tomorrow.

Bookshelf in every magazine

Bookshelf is the books and literature section of all twelve Cabanga magazine editions, and its adverts run across their ad spaces. These are the editions for our five countries.

A city newsstand: readers pick up the magazines with their Bookshelf pages, under a billboard advertising the books.
